Pull for Pride- Women's Strength Coalition Event

BIRTHFIT Regional Director: Jaclyn Diaz will be competing in a deadlifting competition, put on by the Women's Strength Coalition

 At the event, up to 50 lifter-fundraisers will take turns deadlifting progressively higher weights, aiming to match dollar for pound to help lift up LGBT, often-unnoticed homeless youth. The deadlift, for the uninitiated, involves stepping up behind a loaded barbell, grasping the bar, standing up with the weight, and setting it back down on the ground. It is a simple lift that is imbued with meaning: coming forward to face a challenge, and succeeding through the simple mechanism of one’s own strength.

BIRTHFIT San Diego will be one of a few sponsors for the competition, but anyone can lift or donate to support the Sunburst Youth Housing Program.

The Sunburst Youth Housing Program is an innovative youth supportive housing project that is one of the first of its kind in the United States.  Run by The Center San Diego, The Youth Housing Project provides affordable, supportive housing for youth between 18-24 years of age, with a special focus on LGBTQ and HIV+ youth. These high-risk youth were living in the streets or in public spaces after having been ejected from their homes because of their sexual orientation.

The 23-unit facility is located in downtown San Diego at 1640 Broadway, close to City College, public transportation, community health facilities and other essential resources. The facility is wheelchair accessible and contains two units that have been retrofitted to accommodate persons in wheelchairs.

This year we are opening it up to the public. You are invited to attend the final day of the BIRTHFIT Summit in which we have a handful of amazing speakers such as Deb Kern, Elizabeth Bachner, and the one and only Jen Racioppi. We have a limited number of tickets. The BIRTHFIT Summit 2018 will be in Austin, TX at South Congress Hotel

I hope to meet at least 100 of you at the BIRTHFIT Summit in Austin, TX in June. :)

BIRTHFIT Workshop: Pregnancy and Postpartum Movement

In a 2.5 hour workshop, we intend to:

  • To provide resources, both through BIRTHFIT HQ and San Diego;
  • To instruct simple steps to implement BIRTHFIT principles into daily lifestyle based on fitness, nutrition, chiropractic, and mindset.
  • Focus on an approach to preconception, pregnancy, and postpartum through fitness, nutrition, chiropractic, and mindset.
  • Learn breath work and movement to connect your body and mindset that will aid in birth and postpartum recovery.
  • Meet up with other like minded women to share experiences and build relationships.

We'll spend the first 45- 60 minutes talking BIRTHFIT and physiological adaptions that occur in the female body during 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th (postpartum) trimester.  Then show specific movements and exercise routines that can be modified to support the core during this transition.  In the last 90 minutes we'll go through breath and movement and complete a workout!

No workout experience necessary.  All fitness levels welcome!
